Join the Residence Life Team!

Are you interested in being a member of a dynamic, talented, supportive team right here on the Bishop’s campus? Are you enthusiastic, involved, and caring? Well then, being a Residence Assistant might be the job for you!

When I moved into residence last year, one of the first people my friends and I met was our RA. She was responsible for everyone in Abbott Block 2, and helped us numerous times throughout the year. She was looking out for us, her residents, in every area of our lives at Bishop’s. She wanted us to succeed in our classes, be involved in the school community, and stay health and sane at the same time. She gave us advice, tips, tricks, stories and more, helping us to learn about our home. The entire RA team planned events to take our minds off the stress of exams or final papers. They would stop by while on duty to chat, hang out, make sure everyone was safe and having a good time. It wasn’t long into the year before I realized myself that I wanted to be an RA. I applied, got the job in Abbott Block 2, and have been having a blast ever since.

The 2013-2014 Residence Life Team!

Being an RA is one of the most rewarding experiences a student can have on campus. Not only is it one of the best paying jobs on campus, every RA is supported by a team who are there to make sure that you succeed. The connections you make with students and administrators, as well as the experiences and opportunities for personal development are amazing. The skills you learn at training but also the ones you develop through doing the job are gold on any future job application or resume. Being an RA has helped me to improve my communication, problem solving, leadership skills and so many others. ┬áMy job as an RA is to work with people, make sure they are okay, help them solve problems, and to host events for our community. Just like any other student, I still get stressed, but being a part of community like the one in Bishop’s residence has helped me to stay focused and be productive. Even though I live and work on-campus I still have time to be a part of other clubs and teams as well as hang out with my friends off-campus.

Applications are currently open for students to apply to be a part of the 2014-2015 Residence Life team! You can pick them up from the front desk at Paterson Hall, and they are due back by December 16th. Don’t miss the chance to be part of the team! I’d love to have the chance to work with you!

Good luck on your final projects and exams everyone!

Cheers,

Matthew
