Residence Packing List

Hey Gaiters!

As always, let’s start with a countdown. 3…2…1… 13 DAYS! Almost there guys!
Hopefully, if you haven’t already started packing, you’ve at least given some thought to what you’re going to bring to residence. If you haven’t, don’t worry, I have a RESIDENCE PACKING LIST complete with everything you’re going to want and need for first year.

Desk supplies:
• Pens, pencils, highlighters, and erasers
• Whiteout
• Stapler and staple remover
• Ruler
• Scissors
• Paper clips
• Rubber bands
• Post-its
• Calculator
• Dictionary
• Calendar
• Hole punch
• Printer paper
• Notebooks
• Extra printer cartridges

Laundry, shower, linens:
• Laundry bag, detergent, bleach, stain remover, and dryer sheets
• Basket to carry toiletries into the bathroom
• Flip-flops for shower
• Sheets, comforter, pillows
• Cotton padding or other cover for mattress
• Extra blankets
• Towels and washcloths

Toiletries:
• Soap, shampoo, conditioner
• Toothpaste, toothbrush, floss
• Lotion
• Deodorant
• Brush and comb
• Razor
• Hair gel/mousse
• Nail Clippers/Nail File

For snacking:
• Miniature refrigerator
• Microwave
• Teapot/coffee maker
• Mug, glass, plate, bowls, utensils
• Dish soap and scrubbing pad
• Can opener
• Paper towels
• Trash bags

Lamps:
• Desk lamp
• Floor lamp if the room doesn’t have overhead lighting
• Lamp for your nightstand or a clip-on lamp for the headboard

Hardware and storage:
• Hooks of all sizes for the walls and doors
• Power strip/surge protector
• Extension cords
• Duct tape
• Closet organizer
• Hangers

First aid box:
• Band-Aids
• Antibiotic ointment
• Tweezers
• Bandage tape and gauze pads
• Hydrogen peroxide
• Rubbing alcohol
• Tylenol, ibuprofen, Benadryl, aspirin, cough drops, sore throat drops
• Pepto-Bismol
• Freezable ice pack

Miscellaneous:
• Removable adhesive for hanging posters.
• Photos of family and friends
• Area rug
• Door mat
• Cork bulletin board
• Small dry erase board
• Mirror
• Small fan
• Glue gun
• Sewing kit, safety pins
• Flashlight
• Batteries
• Broom and/or dustbuster (mini vac)
• Alarm clock
• Camera
• Hair dryer

Of course, this is just a guideline. I suggest going through this list and changing it to fit your needs. Also, don’t be shy when it comes to asking for advice! Upper year students, who know everything about res life, suggested most of these things. Oh, and our parents are usually smarter than we give them credit for, so ask them what they think as well.
