The Canada Games are at Bishop’s!

Hey Everyone!

Allison here, taking a quick break from the craziness of The Canada Games to update you on what we are doing.

For 15 days in August athletes from all over Canada are using Bishop’s as the official residence for the games.

Dewhurst is alive with hungry athletes who need refuelling and campus is full of people all day every-day.

Busses transport the athletes from campus to various venues almost 24 hours a day!

During the games, I am fortunate enough to work with fellow Gaiter athlete, Scott Ring; we set up camp in The SRC Academic office and take part in a variety of things happening on campus.

Scott and I coordinate and manage hosting and protocol for the Games Village. We ensure that our volunteers and all team members are informed with the most up-to-date and accurate information from 7AM-11PM every single day. Our volunteers are crucial to the success of the Games and without them; the Games would not be able to operate. Our team is comprised of many local community members as well as BU alumni who share our passion to showcase our beautiful campus with pride and express our sense of strong community to our visitors.

The volunteers act as tour guides to athletes, coaches and mission staff on and around the Bishop’s campus.

Scott and I act as the liaisons between Bishop’s and the Games Village team to our visitors.  Our goal is to keep everyone up to date with what is going on in the most effective and efficient manner.

On top of this, we are also doing our best to ensure people are comfortable with campus and it’s surrounding areas so, we are also working with recruitment to give two daily tours and are also promoting Bishop’s to potential future Gaiters by giving away some purple swag and IRC’s to potential students.

All in all, this has been an amazing experience thus far and we are incredibly excited for the next 10 days and what it will bring.
