Top Places to Visit in the Eastern Townships

The Eastern Townships has a wide-array of places to visit. One of the joys of coming to Bishop’s University is there are so many things to do just a bus or car ride away. Whether you enjoy sightseeing or hitting the slopes, there is something for everyone. We have compiled a list of activities to do in our wonderful region.

Foresta Lumina

An award-winning attraction, this multimedia experience is magical. It is a forest trail in the Parc de la Gorge de Coaticook, equipped with a light show that will take your breath away. Open until mid-october, we recommend you reserve tickets in advance to ensure your spot.

Located in Sutton, Vélovolant invites you to cycle through the tree tops using a cycling machine suspended on a strong cable. You decide the speed you travel as it goes only as fast as you pedal. Enjoy the beauty of nature around you and become closer to nature.—canopy-cycle.htm

Bleu Lavande

Located in Fitch Bay, this lavender farm will please your senses. There are many activities offered for all your interests, included guided tours, massages, and yoga retreats. Do not forget to grab a signature lavender ice cream! With affordable entry tickets, you will want to come back again and again.

Mont Pinacle

This is one of the most popular hiking sites in the Eastern Townships (and one of the most “Instagrammable” spots near our campus!). Situated in Coaticook, Mount Pinacle offers different trails that lead to a breath-taking view. What’s great is that there is no fee to walk the trail! Make sure you bring lots of water for your hike!

Old-North Ward Walking Tour

Brought to you by the Sherbrooke Historical Society, this activity is a local gem. During this 2 hour walk, you are given an MP3 player and a detailed map to a trail in the city that lets you admire the city’s architecture and historical houses.

Granby Zoo

It doesn’t have to be summer to enjoy the company of exotic animals! The zoo offers visitors to see most of the same animals for half the price of a summer ticket. Come learn about animals such as Amur Tigers and Snow Leopards. You can easily spend a whole day here!

Owl’s Head

Do you love skiing or snowboarding? Owl’s Head is one of students’ favorite winter spots. Grab some buddies, jump in the car, and head on the road to fun!

Parc National du Mont-Mégantic

Don’t feel like skiing but want to enjoy the beautiful outdoors while getting rigorous exercise? Snowshoeing may be for you! Trek down in nature and be amazed by the natural beauty around you. The Parc National du Mont-Mégantic is definitely a must-see in the Eastern Townships!

Parc National du Mont-Orford

Immerse yourself in a winter wonderland by taking advantage of the walking trails found at the beautiful park in Orford. You’ll be swept away by the picturesque landscape.

Bishop’s University Cross-Country Ski Trail

Bishop’s has its very own ski trail! Opened in 2017, the trail is the first of its kind on a university campus in Canada that is certified by the Fédération internationale de Ski (FIS). Ski passes are free to students with their Student ID. Take advantage of this unique opportunity!
