Be Purple, B.U. – How the Bishop’s Motto Changed My Life

Be Bold

I used to believe that once you failed, there was no going back. That one bad grade, one wrong turn, or one missed opportunity could close doors forever. And for a while, that belief held me back. I wasn’t always passionate about school—I struggled, stumbled, and failed more times than I’d like to admit. Each failure chipped away at my confidence until I wondered if university was even an option for someone like me. But then I found Bishop’s University—and this is how Bishop’s changed my life.

Be Accomplished

Right away, I could tell that I wasn’t just a number at Bishop’s. They didn’t just look at my long history of grades but allowed me to explain myself—something not often seen when applying to other universities.

At other schools, your application is just a set of numbers—your GPA, your test scores, whether they’re high or low. There’s no space to explain how you’ve grown or what you’re capable of now. Most universities don’t let you submit a letter of intent or letters of recommendation, even if they could provide a fuller picture of who you are today.

But Bishop’s did—and that made all the difference.

Be Inspired

I had the opportunity to write a letter of intent outlining my academic journey and submit letters of recommendation from teachers and employers who could speak to the person I had become.

As someone who didn’t follow a linear path after high school and took time to find my passion, I realized that the doors I once thought were closed had never really been shut.

Bishop’s was holding them open, waiting for me to take the next step.

Be Daring

Bishop’s saw the potential in who I am today, even when I had lost sight of it myself. And that second chance didn’t just bring me back to school—it gave me the confidence to grow, push myself, and embrace opportunities I never thought I’d have.

Bishop’s challenged me in ways I never expected. As a mature student, I moved in with roommates nearly a decade younger, yet we quickly became close friends because we were all working toward the same goal. I began to embrace the challenges in my coursework, knowing I had professors who truly cared and were there to guide me through every obstacle.

Bishop’s gave me the confidence to step outside my comfort zone.

Be Purple

The strong sense of community at Bishop’s encouraged me to join clubs, attend campus events, and fully immerse myself in student life. For the first time, I wasn’t just going to school—I was part of something bigger. Bishop’s didn’t just give me a second chance; it gave me the foundation to reach my full potential as a student.

B.U.

Now, you might be wondering if Bishop’s University is the right school for you. So let me ask you this: are you looking for more than just a school? A place where professors know your name and where you truly matter? If so, the answer is yes.

I can confidently say that Bishop’s doesn’t just open doors; it helps you walk through them. And if you’re ready to take that step, Bishop’s will welcome you with open arms.
