Arriving on campus for the first time can be super intimidating. People rush around to get settled while you figure out your roommate and where your classes are. But here’s the thing: pretty much everyone else is feeling the same way. You’re all in this together, navigating the same unknowns and asking the same questions.
The good news is that Bishop’s has a pretty awesome vibe that makes it easy to feel at home. Right from the start, people eager to meet you and help you settle surround you. It’s a great feeling to know you’re not alone, and that you’re part of a community that’s all about supporting each other. Before you know it, you’ll be feeling right at home.
Meeting Your Pack
As a member of the residence life team, I can attest that community is at the heart of everything we do at Bishop’s. Our Resident Assistants are dedicated to creating a welcoming atmosphere that feels like home. To achieve this, they plan a range of events that bring people together, including movie nights, game nights, cooking activities (a personal favorite of mine!), and many more. Campus buzzes with events, giving you plenty of chances to dive into the social scene. One of the highlights is our house banquet, where students gather for a formal dinner with wine. It’s an amazing time to connect with others and celebrate the community. These events are a great way to meet new people, make lasting connections, and create memories.
Opportunities for a Gaiter
At Bishop’s, we’re all about embracing new experiences and pursuing our interests. We value our downtime, but we also make the most of the time we spend together. To get the most out of your time here, I highly recommend throwing yourself into clubs, events, and job opportunities that align with your passions and program. For me, that meant discovering a passion for admissions and landing a role in the student ambassador program. I got to lead tours, meet new students and families, and help plan events. It was an incredible experience that allowed me to connect with like-minded people and develop a valuable skill set. By getting involved, you’ll not only meet new people but also gain practical experience and skills that will benefit you in the long run.
