If you are into golf, Bishop’s is perfect for you!

The Old Lennoxville Golf Course, opened in 1897, is one of the oldest nine-hole courses in Canada, with a lot of history and challenging holes. It’s walkable from campus so you don’t even need a car. For students, it costs $12.50 to play and walk and $21 to take a golf cart. That price is not beatable! Want to play 18 holes? Milby Golf Course is nearby and costs around $60 on weekends. However, this course is 20 minutes from campus so a car would be needed. As a fourth-year student, I’ve loved golfing at Old Lennoxville every warm weekend. I have had a blast playing golf at The Old Lennoxville Golf Club every weekend in the warmer months.
Are you an avid skier?

Then Bishop’s is the perfect place for you! With many places offering student discounts, skiing is a very reasonable option for students in the Eastern Townships. Jay Peak (1h16m away) offers a season pass for $285 CAD, while Mont Orford (25 mins away) costs $489. If you are not a fan of downhill skiing, we also have cross-country ski paths on the golf course in the winter, which is free for Bishop’s students. It doesn’t get much better than that! Whether you are a beginner or an expert there are trails for everyone, and it’s only 25 minutes away from campus, making it very easy to car–pool with your friends. For three years, I’ve had a blast skiing at Mont Orford with friends using a season pass.
Hiking

If you enjoy being outdoors and going on hikes with your friends, there are plenty of beautiful hiking spots that you can go to that are within driving distance from the Bishop’s campus. Many mountains close to Sherbrooke have hiking trails such as Mont Orford, Mont Sutton and Mont Bellevue. The best part is that they are free! I have been on many breathtaking hikes in the Eastern Townships and I 100% recommend giving them a try if you have the chance.
Prefer something chill? Lennoxville’s cafés might be for you
Lennoxville has a variety of cozy cafés, perfect for grabbing a coffee between classes. Popular spots like The Uplands Cultural and Heritage Centre and Café Faro are great for both studying and meeting up with friends. If you want a change from studying at the Bishop’s University library, then Café Faro is the perfect spot to study and hang out with your friends while enjoying a delicious coffee. I have found myself studying for my midterms and exams at the café and found it to be a great quiet place to study. It is a great experience that I recommend to all Bishop’s students.
Do you enjoy playing outdoor hockey with your friends?

Then you came to the right place as there are plenty of rinks to enjoy around the Lennoxville area. My favorite rink is Patinoire BBB in Sherbrooke (17 mins from campus), funded by the Canadiens — it has a heated dressing room, benches, and even a Zamboni! Every week they host open hockey for all ages and it’s a great way to meet people, fellow Bishop’s students, and other students who go to the other schools’ in Sherbrooke. The past few winters I have been able to enjoy this rink with my friends, and I hope everyone else can too!
I hope that these special activities that are available around Lennoxville will help with your decision to come to Bishop’s University!
