Where are you now? What are you up to, and how is life going?

Three years ago, my partner, Sander, and I moved from Ottawa to the Netherlands and we live just outside of Amsterdam in a town called Haarlem! I actually visited Amsterdam when I was on my BU exchange semester in France in 2014 and I always hoped someday I would be able to live here. Eleven years later, here I am! I love being able to bike every day, eat all the cheese, work in a laid-back work culture, and get to easily travel to so many cool places around Europe.

At BU I did a BBA in HR and International Business, with a minor in Psychology and now I’m working in my dream job on the Early Careers team at the Booking.com HQ in Amsterdam. As an Early Careers Engagement Lead, I help interns and grads kick off their careers in tech. It’s so fun!

How did your time at Bishop’s shape your career path or influence your journey?

My first ever recruitment role was when I worked as a Student Ambassador at Bishop’s. I learned so much while recruiting students to come study at Bishop’s, and it definitely impacted my decision to dive into the world of corporate Campus Recruitment after I graduated. I still apply things I learned from hosting 400-person open house days on the BU campus! It’s so valuable that due to the small student population at Bishop’s, you get all these amazing opportunities as students to start and lead things. That type of drive that you gain really stays with you!

I’m also truly grateful for all the special people I met during my time at Bishop’s and the positive influence they have on my life to this day! It’s been so fun to see everyone do so well and travel together, go to their weddings, meet their babies, and still stay so close.

Do you have any tips or advice for current students?

Don’t be a stranger to BU alumni!! I met up with a Bishop’s student who was on exchange in Amsterdam last year and it was so fun to hear what’s been happening back on campus and for me to share about my career path. The beauty of Bishop’s is the amazing people you get to meet, so don’t be afraid to reach out to alumni when thinking about your plans post-graduation!
