As a Bishop’s University student from a small town in Québec, I quickly found myself searching for that “home away from home” feeling. Like many students at BU, I’ve built strong connections not only with people but with the places that make this campus and community so special. Here’s my personal list of the top 10 things to do in Lennoxville and at Bishop’s!
1. Take in the View from the TD Terrace in the Plex
Located on the upper floor of the Sports Plex, the terrace offers one of the best views on campus. On sunny days, I love studying there, watching the sunset, catching a game on the field, or just relaxing with friends.
2. Walk or Bike the Green Route
The scenic bike path that gives access to the Old Lennoxville Golf Club (the Green Route) is a must-see, especially during the fall! Surrounded by lots of trees and the golf course, I found this path to be a great place to unwind, to take a walk with friends, or just to enjoy some alone time.
3. Study in the Old Library
The old library at Bishop’s is one of my favourite hidden gems at Bishop’s places to go study. It is smaller and cozier than the main library, which makes it a quiet, inviting place to study and focus. I was really glad when I found out about this spot!
4. Relax at Optimist Park
Just a short walk from campus, this park is always a great place to take a break from studying. You can usually find people playing all sorts of games, as well as people sunbathing (or taking a dip in the water) when the weather is nice.
5. Sip & Study at Faro Café
This coffee place located in Lennoxville is the place to go for a coffee with friends or if you are looking for another study spot. There are lots of tables to sit around and talk or study. My personal favourite thing to order is definitely their chai latte!
6. Catch a Show at Centennial Theatre
Having a theatre on campus is a huge perk! From drama department plays to guest lectures like the Donald Lecture Series, there’s always something worth seeing. Highlights for me included the New Plays Festival and seeing Elisapie Isaac as part of the lecture series.
7. Study Breaks and Sunshine on the Quad
If you have been on the Bishop’s grounds, you probably know the Quad, as it is right at the heart of the campus. Other than offering a nice view of the old buildings, it is a great place to sit, read, or talk with friends. Since it is close to the library, I like to enjoy my study breaks there!
8. Enjoy the Gazebo
The officially named Hugh & Paule Scott Gazebo is one of my favourite places to enjoy the nice weather. This spot feels cozy and is really beautiful, especially when the flowers around it are blooming.
9. Stargaze at the Astronomical Observatory
This place is not one that is always accessible, but if you do have the chance to go, I highly recommend it! I was able to go once as a stargazing event was hosted there, and it was absolutely worth it. It makes for great memories with friends!
10. Feel the Spirit at Coulter Field
From football and rugby to soccer and lacrosse, games at Coulter Field are where the BU spirit truly comes alive. The energy is contagious and it’s a great way to feel connected to the community. Indoor games at the Plex are just as exciting.
