As most students know, studying is one of the more unfortunate realities of university life. While Bishop’s and Lennoxville offer plenty to do, there always comes a time to focus and get work done. Whether it’s midterm and finals season or the night a paper is due, it’s not always easy. Personally, my ability to turn on the study switch depends heavily on the atmosphere of where I’m studying. Because of that, I’ve tried out many different spots, and I’ve created a list of my go-tos. With that in mind, let me tell you about my personal favourite study spots that help get me through the grind, and maybe they’ll help you too.
The Default Destination: Library Learning Commons

Obviously, the first place that comes to mind when thinking of a study spot is the library – so let’s start this list off with the classic choice. The new and improved library is where most of us end up during exam seasons. I still remember stepping into the library for the first time and being amazed by how spacious and versatile it was. From study rooms to bean bag chairs to individual work areas, the on campus library has somewhere for everyone and every assignment.

There’s a basement level, main level, and an upstairs level – all of which have countless spots to study. It’s also home to the Writing Centre and IT Service Desk, helpful for assignments and tech issues. There’s also a café near the main entrance, perfect for a quick sandwich and coffee during long study sessions.
With so many options and resources, the library is a solid study spot for any type of work you may be doing. Study rooms are great for group work, while silent areas help you focus on tough concept
Caffeine and Concentration: FARO Cafe
Moving about 10 minutes off campus, the FARO cafe is a great change of scenery. Sometimes it’s nice to escape the campus hustle and work in a space that isn’t all about schoolwork. Instead of sitting among textbooks and laptops, you can enjoy a more relaxed space at cafés like FARO, where people gather over coffee and conversation. The café is filled with art and greenery, creating a space that sparks creativity. It’s perfect for writing a paper or people watching.
There’s something comforting about settling into a café with a coffee and pastry by your side.
Because Sometimes You Just Need to Touch Grass: Optimist Park

(During peak exam season!)
Saving the best for last, my all time favourite study spot is the simplest of them all – the field at Optimist park. It’s just the soccer field by the arches, but studying outside in the sun makes it much more enjoyable. Imagine being in the library and looking out the window just to see the sun shining and thinking to yourself “I wish I could be out there, but I have to study.” Well… What if I told you that Optimist is the best spot to study and soak up the sun at the same time!
It’s not the best spot for a laptop, but it’s perfect for reviewing flashcards or writing notes. One of the best things about this spot is that it gives you a break while still feeling productive. Saving the best for last, my all time favourite study spot is the simplest of them all – the field at Optimist park. Yes, it is literally just the soccer field found as you pass the arches, but studying outside in the sun makes it a lot more bearable. You’re in the library, the sun is shining outside, and all you can think is, “I wish I could be out there.” What if I told you Optimist is the perfect spot to study and enjoy the sun at the same time?
Gather your friends, grab your sunglasses, and get to work!
Your Next Favourite Spot Awaits
Whether I’m productive or not, these spots have seen my best efforts… and my best procrastination. Studying is (unfortunately) a big part of being a student, but at the end of the day, there are ways to make it less draining. If you feel like deleting your paper and giving up, try a new study spot first. You might be surprised by the difference.
