Finding My Creative Path at Bishop’s University
My name is Kendra, and I hail from the construction dungeon that is Montréal, Québec. I’m in my second year at Bishop’s University, majoring in Arts Administration with a concentration in Film Studies. The dream is to become the next Steven Spielberg, although I’ll more likely end up producing the next Jet2 holiday ad. But hey, a girl can dream.
Growing Up Surrounded by Art
Art has always surrounded my education. I learned my alphabet through classical composers, practised math by counting shapes in Picasso paintings at the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts, and absorbed lessons from every kind of film, from dinosaur documentaries to Disney and The Lord of the Rings.
Daydreaming about adventures with fictional friends helped me cope with a reality where I often felt socially isolated for being different.
Choosing Between Arts and Science
Although my upbringing embraced interdisciplinary learning, CEGEP forced me to choose between arts and science. I gave up science to focus on music at Vanier College and felt like I was going through the motions. My inner spark extinguished.
Discovering Bishop’s University
That changed when Bishop’s entered my life. Students from B.U.’s Musical Theatre department visited Vanier to preview a production, and a campus trip followed.
Arriving at Bishop’s in winter felt magical, like stepping into the world of Narnia. I’d applied to other universities, but they felt like other people’s expectations. Bishop’s felt like home.
Studying Arts Administration and Film Studies
What truly drew me in was the Arts Administration program, which blends creativity, business, and filmmaking. The professors genuinely listen and support me, and the emphasis on experiential learning prepares me for real-world success.
The small community helped me form deep friendships that reignited my creative spark. After 20 years of searching, I finally found my tribe. At B.U., my dreams no longer feel distant. They feel achievable.
Getting Involved in Campus Life
Since enrolling, I’ve become involved in the Games Club and Chaos & Creativity Club, organized events like a Hunger Games simulation, and enjoyed everything from cat café outings to designing my own board game.
I’ve also completed internships with the B.U. Fine Arts Department and the Sherbrooke Symphony Orchestra, and I now serve as marketing communications manager for the 2026 B.U. Arts Festival.

If you have a dream, Bishop’s University is the place to pursue it. You’ll probably spot me dancing, singing, and welcoming students with the biggest smile during move-in day in August.
