A Real Day in the Life at Bishop’s University

When I first came to Bishop’s, I figured university would be a mix of early mornings, long lectures, and a lot of caffeine. Some of that’s true (I do drink more coffee now), but my Thursdays are a bit chaotic, creative, and honestly, kind of perfect.

So here’s what a regular Thursday looks like for me. It’s not flashy, but it’s real, and it’s one of the reasons I’ve grown to love my time here.

9:45 AM – The Chaos Begins

My day starts late, which sounds ideal, until you realize I have class at 10:00 AM. Most Thursdays, I wake up at 9:45, throw something on, grab my backpack, and rush across campus to make it to my 10:00 a.m. art class. Some mornings feel like a race against time, but I’ve learned to make it work.

Once I’m in class, though, it’s a full switch in pace. This week, we worked with colors and folded paper in specific patterns to create these tie dye looking designs. I’m not the most artistic person, but this class has made me appreciate how calming it can be to just make something. There’s something satisfying about watching color spread across a page, especially when it turns out better than expected. For two hours and fifty minutes, I get to zone out from everything else and just focus on shapes, patterns, and color. Honestly, it’s one of my only classes I never have to stress about studying for and it’s a good change of pace from my usual lazy mornings.

12:50 PM – Switching Gears

As soon as we’re let out, I pack up all my stuff and head straight to my next class, CDC100, an Intro to Communications course. It’s a completely different vibe from Art, but that contrast is something I actually love about my schedule.

Lately, we’ve been diving into journalism and how communication has changed in the digital age. We’ve talked about everything from TikTok, youtube, news culture to ethical reporting, and it’s made me think about how much media shapes the way we see the world. I didn’t expect to enjoy this class as much as I do, but it’s one of those courses that makes you pay more attention to what’s happening around you, online and in real life.

2:30 PM – The Weekend Begins

The best part? After that class, I’m done for the week. No classes on Friday means Thursday afternoons feel like the start of the weekend, and I like to make the most of it.

First stop: Dewies. After back-to-back classes, food is priority number one. Whether it’s a quick sandwich or something warm and filling, Dewies always hits the spot. Sometimes I go solo, other times I run into friends and we grab a table together. Either way, it’s that satisfying moment when you know the work part of the day is behind you.

After lunch, I usually head back to my room in Hodder Hall and just breathe. There’s something so satisfying about walking back to my room knowing I’ve got a free afternoon ahead. No assignments due Thursday usually, no classes, just time to unwind. I might hop on my computer and play some games, or just chill and scroll through TikTok for a bit. Sometimes I hang out with friends, sometimes I just enjoy being on my own.

7:30 PM – Dinner and the Evening Wind-Down

Dinner is usually a social thing. Around 7:30, I’ll meet up with friends at Dewies again. We’ll talk about whatever, plans for the weekend, how our days went, maybe complain a bit about school (because it’s part of the student experience, let’s be real). Afterward, it’s back to Hodder where I might review my notes or study a bit, but I’m not going to pretend I’m super productive every evening. Some nights I study, some nights I fully embrace the couch-potato energy.

10:00 PM – Purple Pod Snacks & Game Time

Before the night really winds down, there’s one last ritual: the Purple Pod snack run. Between 10 and 10:30, I grab a late-night snack—poutine, an athlete’s meal, or a smoothie—then head back to my room to relax. I’ll either jump into some online games with friends or watch a show I’ve been meaning to catch up on. It’s the perfect way to end the day. No stress, no rush, just time to relax.

Final Thoughts

Thursdays at Bishop’s are a mix of running late, making art, learning cool things, and taking full advantage of the fact that my weekend starts early.  It’s not the most glamorous routine, but it’s mine. And over time, it’s become something I really look forward to. Whether I’m folding colorful paper or doing laundry at midnight with YouTube on, these are the days that make university feel personal and real.

So yeah, it’s just a Thursday. It’s also a reminder that even ordinary days can be filled with creativity, connection, and small moments that make student life here feel special.
