Exploring a new university campus and all of its facilities is sometimes a little uncomfortable and stressful. As a student-athlete here, I spend most of my time in the sports complex. During my first recruiting visit here, I had the chance to experience a full visit of our wonderful John H. Price Sports and Recreation Centre. I was so impressed by everything the facility had to offer, and it definitely played a big role in my decision to come here. Since not everyone gets to explore our sports facilities before arriving, I wanted to share a guide to help you make the most of them.
Discover the weight rooms and Gym Facilities
First of all, if you love working out, you will not be disappointed. The sports center offers two weight rooms. Although one is mostly used for varsity teams, the main one is open to all students. As I am in the women’s soccer team, all of our team workouts are in the weight training room on the first floor of the complex, right next to all the squash courts. However, I love heading to the main fitness center for my personal workouts. There are two different areas in the gym. One area is dedicated to free weights and includes some machines, overlooking the basketball court. It’s quite entertaining when there is a game or a practice, it makes the time pass by between your sets. The other area features equipment such as machines, treadmills, bikes, a stair climber, and other cardio equipment. My favorite part of the gym is its floor-to-ceiling windows, which let you enjoy the outdoor views while working out.
The Indoor Pool
Then, for all the swimmers out there (you don’t actually have to be one), the facility offers a 25-meter indoor pool. Accessible all year round, the pool also includes a small diving board along with waterslides for extra fun.
Experience the Excitement of the Jane and Eric Molson Arena
If you’re more into ice sports, the Jane and Eric Molson Arena is sure to catch your attention. Whether you’re into hockey, figure skating, or simply enjoy watching games, the arena is the perfect spot. I personally mostly go during the women hockey season, to cheer on them with our whole team. The atmosphere is so much fun!

A Look at Denver and Mitchell Gyms
Regarding the gymnasiums, our sports complex offers two double gyms. Denver Gym hosts intramurals, meetings, and exams, while Mitchell Gym serves as the main venue for varsity basketball. Mitchell Gym seats 750 and hosts all home basketball games. Moreover, the second floor of Mitchell Gym includes a jogging track, which is a nice alternative if you don’t like running on the treadmill.
Relax and Recharge: A spotlight on the Dance Studio, Combat Room, and the perfect Social Spot
On the second floor of the sports center, you will also find a dance studio, and right beside it is a combat room. I usually go in there to do some stretching as there is plenty of space and it’s often empty, so you can relax at the same time. Also, for a more laid-back and enjoyable break, there is a Tim Hortons along with a lounging area where you can enjoy your coffee while studying. I always head there after my morning practices to get coffee and some work done before my class. If you enjoy being outside, the TD Terrace overlooking Coulter Field is a great spot to relax or grab lunch with friend. Both spots are great if you love being in a social environment because you will probably bump into lots of familiar faces.
The Old Lennox Golf and Ski Club
A little bit further away from the complex, there is the old Lennox Golf and Ski Club, which is a nine-hole golf course. It’s not every day that you find a university campus with its own golf course, right? If you’re into golfing or if you’re thinking about starting, this is the perfect, budget-friendly spot for students, costing only 12$. I’ve only been there once but it’s such a nice way to take a little break from schoolwork and unwind with some friends.
Coulter Field: Home of the Gaiters

Last but not least, the incredible Coulter Field. Probably where I’ve spent the majority of my time since my first year. Starting my days at 6 a.m. on the field, I’ve found it’s not just great for practice—it’s also perfect for catching the sunrise. Soccer, football, rugby, and lacrosse games all take place at Coulter Field. Seating up to 1,500 people, it’s also the perfect place to go if you want to cheer on your Gaiters. This field really adds to the sense of community and school spirit, especially during games.

Exploring the John H. Price Sports Centre is about more than the facility—it’s about finding a space for both fitness and community. As a student-athlete, these facilities are part of my routine, and I hope this guide helps you make the most of them.
