Getting to know Bishop’s – Meet Nanci Chagnon

Nanci Chagnon, Administrative Assistant for the Williams School of Business

Getting to know your #Ubishops community is a must if you wish to fully immerse yourself into the BUbble! We decided to help you out by conducting monthly interviews with staff and faculty that contribute to the school’s success. This month we had the opportunity to talk to Nanci Chagnon, Administrative Assistant for the Williams School of Business.

Favourite book of all-time?
I love Louise Penny’s novels, that I discovered following a gift I received some years ago, but I would have to say that my favourite book of all-time would be the first novel I have ever read. I was in grade 4 and it was Anne of Green Gables.

Favourite group or singer?
I like listening to the radio because I enjoy various music styles but I would have to say Imagine Dragons for my favourite group.

Favourite movie of all-time?
It is difficult to just pick one as depending on the period of my life, I would pick one over another one but I would go with Gladiator.

Favourite spot on campus?
We have a beautiful campus with many nice spots on campus to go to but if I had to pick only one, I would say that it would be St. Mark’s Chapel. When you enter it, you are immediately transported to a different time and place.

Favourite spot off-campus?
Going down the slopes on a sunny day at Owl’s Head is just amazing.

Favourite #Ubishops moment?
I don’t have one favourite moment but it is a series of small moments that makes you love being part of the BU community: knowing that you made a small positive difference in someone’s day whether it be a student, faculty or a colleague, a colleague that provides assistance even though it is not their job to do so, an alumnus taking the time to come and see you if they happen to be on campus, watching our students graduate and remembering all that they have accomplished while they were here, etc. However, I have to say that there is a powerful moment that still resonate with me amongst all the others and it is the Celebration of Life for one of our former student, Ben Houtman, who unfortunately passed away. This celebration to me was a testimony of the true Bishop’s essence and what this community was all about.

Describe #Ubishops in three words.
Family, beautiful, cozy.

If you had to switch jobs with someone on campus, what would it be and why?
I have no intention of switching jobs as I believe I have found the perfect job for me. I have the privilege to interact on a daily basis with faculty and students as well as many great colleagues across the campus.

If you had to join a club or student group on campus, what would it be and why?
Actually, there are a few… The Photography Club would definitely be of interest to me since I love looking at great pictures but I am really bad at taking them! I would also be interested in joining the volleyball, badminton or figure skating clubs to renew with some old interests that have been set aside for several years now!

If you had to go back to school, which program would you pick and why?
I would love to study in Communications as I believe it would give me additional knowledge and skills that would be very useful in an administrative assistant’s role.
