Top 10 After 10: Celebrating alumni achievements

Every two years, Bishop’s University recognizes ten #UBishopsAlumni who have become leaders in many walks of life. This year’s inductees have graduated between the years of 1996 and 2006, and since graduation, have found extensive success personally, professionally and in their communities.  Meet this year’s Top 10 After 10!

Suzanne Bertrand ’96, BBA Accounting
Suzanne Bertrand is currently the Chief Financial Officer at Rodeo FX in Montreal, QC. After graduating from Bishop’s, Suzanne went on to obtain her Graduate Diploma in Accountancy from Concordia University and her CPA designation. Suzanne worked for 15 years as a professional accountant & business advisor before being named CFO of Moment Factory in 2013, and currently of Rodeo FX.

Sidney Sommer ’97, BA Sociology
Sidney Sommer is the Founder and Managing Director at UCIT Online Security. Sidney started the business in 2003, and since, UCIT has become a leader in the security industry. In 2008, Sidney was named BDC Young Entrepreneur of the Year for Ontario. Today, with the 2016 acquisition of Stealth Monitoring, UCIT employs over 420 people at offices across North America.

Rick Jaggi ’03, BSc Biochemistry
Rick Jaggi is an Otolaryngologist & Facial Plastic Surgeon in Saskatoon, SK. After graduating from Bishop’s, he went to medical school at Dalhousie University as well as a residency in Otolaryngology. In 2013, Dr. Jaggi was recruited to Saskatoon, where he currently lives. Dr. Jaggi recently established The Face Institute for advanced care in the fields of Facial Plastic Surgery, Head & Neck Oncology and Ear, Nose & Throat Surgery.

Michael Laidlaw ’96, BA Drama
Michael Laidlaw is Head of Dramatic Arts at Etobicoke School of the Arts in Toronto. After graduating, Michael went on to obtain his Graduate Diploma in Education and his M.Ed. Michael’s teaching career is underscored by innovative and collaborative programming for students and staff. For example, Michael helped to create “In Bloom: A Celebration of Teen Spirit and the Arts,” a performance evening devoted to raising awareness around youth mental health issues.

Arash Madani ’02, BBA Human Resources
Arash Madani is a National Reporter and Anchor for Rogers Sportsnet. After graduating from Bishop’s, Arash began his career at The Score after stints in sports radio and daily newspapers. Arash has now been with Sportsnet since 2009, covering a variety of sports – from Hockey Night in Canada to the Olympics, to multiple World Series, etc. He has travelled the world covering live events, sideline reporting and interviewing some of the biggest newsmakers in sports.

Paulette McCarthy ’96, BBA Human Resources
Paulette McCarthy is the Chief Human Resources Officer at St. Boniface General Hospital in Winnipeg, MB. Her portfolio consists of Employee Relations, Human Resources, Occupational Health/Safety and Organization Excellence. Paulette has had many accomplishments throughout her career. Most recently, she was the creator and lead of an Injury Prevention System that has reduced staff injuries and garnered an innovation grant from Workers’ Compensation.

Sarah McLean Hopkins ’99, BA Biology
Sarah McLean Hopkins is a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner at VON – Keene Health Center in Keene, ON. Sarah started her career at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto working on the Oncology unit, where she was able to support, teach and care for children and their families. In 2016, she obtained her Master’s Degree in Nursing and a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate. Throughout her career she has cared for clients of all ages.

Mylène Savoie ’98, BBA Marketing
Mylène Savoie is currently the President of McCann Montreal. In 2016, Mylène was recruited by McCann World Group to take the helm of their newly acquired Montreal Operation. Mylène leads a team of 50+ skilled marketers offering major clients such as L’Oréal, Nespresso and Bombardier, expertise in communications and advertising.

Junior Sirivar ’99, BA Geography
Junior Sirivar has practiced law at McCarthy Tetrault for the past 14 years. He is currently a Partner and Co-Chair of McCarthy Tetrault’s International Arbitration practice group. Junior has been consistently ranked as a Litigation Star by Benchmark Canada and he is the recipient of a 2010 Lexpert Zenith Award honouring him for his pro bono representation of the victims of a pogrom in Romania.

Scott Tucker ’96, BA Sociology
Scott Tucker is a Morning Show Host at Bell Media Virgin Radio 99.9 in London, ON. His first broadcasting job was in Rosetown, Saskatchewan, but the majority of his career was spent in London, ON, building two successful morning shows. Scott was named On Air Talent of the year at Canadian Music Week in both 2014 and 2015. He is currently the host of Tucker in the Morning on 99.9 Virgin Radio.

We welcomed these ten accomplished graduates back to campus during Homecoming weekend to celebrate their successes with the Bishop’s community. Each one of these inductees represents what it means to be a Bishop’s University graduate.
