Getting to Know Bishop’s – Meet Simon Fortin

Getting to know your #Ubishops community is a must if you wish to fully immerse yourself into the BUbble! We decided to help you out by conducting monthly interviews with staff and faculty that contribute to the school’s success. This month we had the opportunity to talk to Simon Fortin, Security Officer.

Favourite book of all-time?
Hard to pick.  I really like the author Dan Brown. I read all of his books. Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons are my two favourite ones. I also love the The Lord of the Ring trilogy! I read all three in one week.

Favourite group or singer?
I am a big fan of everything that was done in the 90s: Metallica, Guns ‘N Roses, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, etc. I also listen to a lot of Quebec music (musique québécoise). I am a big fan of Les Cowboys Fringants.

Favourite movie of all-time?
I have a few that I have watched several times: The Godfather, The Shawshank Redemption, Cast Away, Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction… but my favourite of all times is The Green Mile!

Favourite spot on campus?
I really like the Quad. I find it beautiful.

Favourite spot off-campus?
Parc Jacques-Cartier. I go there several times a week for a walk around the Lac des Nations. It’s the perfect place to recharge your batteries and take some fresh air.

Favourite #Ubishops moment?
For me, the best #Ubishops moment is Convocation weekend. As a security officer, you have to deal with difficult situations students are involved in or are victims of. At Convo, we often have students coming to us (Security) and shake our hands, giving us hugs and thanking us for keeping them safe.

Describe #Ubishops in three words.
Community, Respect, Commitment

If you had to switch jobs with someone on campus, what would it be and why?
I really like what I do but the shifts are crazy. I don’t know actually. Probably in the Residence Life team. I would have to keep working with the students.

If you had to join a club or student group on campus, what would it be and why?
Games club because I play a lot of board games so that would be an easy fit for me. Or Big buddies because you’re working with kids and making a difference.

If you had to go back to school, which program would you pick and why?
Probably the BBA. My dad was a market economy investor. I have good knowledge of that field.
